U.S. State Department Urges Israel to Investigate Alleged Human Shields in Gaza

The U.S. State Department has once again called on Israel to swiftly investigate and ensure accountability for any transgressions and violations. In a statement, it said it has seen the reports described as disturbing, regarding the Israeli army's use of civilians as human shields.

The State Department added that Washington will continue to clarify to the Israeli government that it expects them to act in accordance with the law of armed conflict.

In this context, the State Department also noted that the Israeli army said it is investigating the Al Jazeera video and that it does not reflect its values as it is a violation of its orders and procedures.

Vedant Patel, the Deputy Spokesperson for the State Department, said during a press conference held in Washington, "We have seen these disturbing reports in the video. The Israeli army said it is conducting an investigation into the incident and that what was depicted in these videos does not reflect its values and was a clear violation of its orders and procedures. I will let the Israelis speak for themselves, but we once again call on Israel to promptly conduct the investigation and ensure accountability for any transgressions and violations. We will continue to clarify to the Israeli government that there are, of course, expectations that they should act in accordance with the law of armed conflict."

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) considered the Israeli army's use of Palestinian prisoners as human shields during its military operations in the Gaza Strip to be a full-fledged war crime, calling for its prosecution.

In a press statement last Sunday, Izzat al-Rishq, a member of the movement's political bureau, said that the use of Palestinian detainees as human shields by the Nazi occupation army during its terrorist operations in the Gaza Strip is a full-fledged war crime. He considered this a flagrant violation of all laws of war and prisoners' rights, and a disregard for all international covenants, laws, and treaties.
